If you are most comfortable behind a camera and just love working with children, specializing in baby photography can be rewarding for you and your clients. Creating stunning shots of newborns and infants that become lifelong family keepsakes will give you confidence in your work.
A child is the greatest gift on Earth, and many people treasure photos as material reminders of milestones in their children’s lives. From the time of their birth and right through the early years, children develop very quickly and go through phases of innocence to naughtiness.
Getting Experience as a Baby Photographer
Baby photography is a specialized field. You need to understand how your subjects work and truly do need to have an affinity with babies and infants. You need to understand their parents’ needs and be able to produce original work that captures their child uniquely.
Baby Showers.
One way to get into baby photography is to volunteer your services to photograph baby showers. Grab your
DSLR and be prepared to experiment. These are perfect opportunities to build relationships with potential clients. It is also an opportunity to show potential clients the quality of your work through a free photographic session. Baby showers are a great way to network with mothers-to-be and show them how truly beautiful they are through the lens of your camera. Don’t forget about maternity photography either.
Mother’s Groups
Volunteer to attend a mother’s group meeting to take photos of them and their babies and infants. This is a great way to build relationships with people and a gentle of showing them how they can document the milestones in their children’s lives. Working for free while you establish yourself, and your reputation, lets you demonstrate your talents. Volunteering also gives you a fantastic reputation for working well with children and producing results.
Working with Babies
Working with infants from birth to one-year-old is a particularly difficult time to get great shots. When they are young they sleep or cry a lot, and as they grow older they either never stay still or make a photographer’s life difficult with their antics.
Special Note: Good results with digital backdrops, backgrounds and image editing are often more easily achieved with step by step video tuition rather than trying to absorb a five hundred page book or guide. Why? Because you can actually see what needs to be done and how to do it.
If this takes your interest and you want to try it, this link provides the first of a string of free tuition videos straight after registering your interest. All you have to do is register your email address. Then, after confirming your receipt of a test email, we send the backdrop (background) and image editing videos to your inbox. It all takes a few seconds surprisingly. Later, you will be given an option to join the club but that’s up to you. You will also be informed if the club is closed for new members.
