Most often or always, we are looking for opportunities to photograph some exotic or more celebrated members of the natural world. In doing so we are wont to forget that there are beautiful moments right around us to photograph, share and marvel at. Thank you for your lovely pics and reminding everyone that so much of extraordinary brilliance even in the most ordinary ? subjects !

This is a wonderful article, and very informative. The concept of waiting, and waiting for just the right combination of light and action reminds me somewhat of Ansel Adams. I do a lot of landscape work, and I also find myself waiting and waiting for just the right moment, for example, when the sun shines through the clouds. On the other hand, there are moments which pass incredibly quickly, such as when I am trying to capture images caught in the setting sun and the light is changing from second to second.

I also like the idea of finding your work right in your own local neighborhood. At the end of the day, all photography is local. One could spend years just photographing one's own back yard.

Very good article and shots. I agree that we often miss the opportunity of a lifetime by not looking closer around us for some great shot and training. Thank you for your effort and time with the article.

This is one great photo! The specie of the bird does'nt really matter here, this is great because of the "perfect moment" which is portrayed (the bird trying to scoop a drink with water still in its beak). I'm sure it really takes a lot of effort to capture a photo such as this! Patience really is a virtue that we Photogrpahers need to have, to be able to get those perfect shots!
